A very interesting walk – visits an old windmill, the site of the Battle of St. Fagans in 1648, the Folk Museum and an interesting footbridge over the river Ely.
N.B. There is a short section of road from the link road bridge to the start of the path to St Fagans that requires caution. Use the road side verges and take care on the bend in the road.
Follows the Valeways heritage trail. The roads are quiet, but take care as they are narrow.
This is a strenuous route as it climbs the Garth Mountain. There is a footbridge near the station that allows the crossing of the Taff. The route follows part of the Rhymney Ridge walk
The roads are quiet, but take care as they are narrow.
This route starts at the Barrage car park and goes through the Marina, crosses the river on the footbridge (which opens) and then follows the Ely trail to St. Fagans. The section from the primary school to Ely bridge, crosses the railway line on a footbridge, but then continues alongside the very busy main Cowbridge road( When the Mill housing is finished the trail will avoid this section)
However the pavement is quite wide & there are lights at the bridge to cross the road.
The route starts at the car park by the railway bridge in Porthkerry park, and then follows the Valeways heritage trail to Jubilee, passing Duffryn house and the prehistoric burial chambers on the way. Watch out for cattle in the fields!
The route goes from the centre of Cowbridge to Welsh St Donats. Through the woodland to pick up the Valeways heritage trail to Peterston super Ely, walking alongside the river, then to Jubilee.
Care is needed as the river banks are crumbly & the river runs fast here.
There are many attractions within half an hours drive of the campsite, here are just a few ideas.
